{"id":2986,"date":"2020-05-15T14:47:18","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T13:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmbinba.org\/heathrow\/?p=2986"},"modified":"2020-05-15T14:48:13","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T13:48:13","slug":"where-we-are-update-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmbinba.org\/heathrow\/where-we-are-update-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Where We Are (Update 30)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dear GMB Member,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transport Select Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will recall the Willie Walsh was questioned earlier this week by the TSC.<br>He subsequently wrote to the Committee Chairman, Huw Merriman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This letter &#8211; and the strong reaction it provoked &#8211; can be seen using the by <a href=\"https:\/\/committees.parliament.uk\/committee\/153\/transport-committee\/news\/146433\/chair-comments-on-response-from-willie-walsh\/?fbclid=IwAR3yi9GT-Pcrs_wvHvdOYdlN7x8dvLE8AzApAQvkKYGgDhioMVytsiIMP00\">clicking here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where we are<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our view has been set out over recent GMB bulletins, that the BA &#8216;consultation&#8217; is illegal and immoral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are asking the company to withdraw their proposals and are hoping that our legal arguments and the pressure of public and political opinion will persuade them to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the meantime, we are not participating in any meetings with the company related to their proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We believe that doing otherwise &#8211; either on a collective or individual level &#8211; would be inconsistent with our position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This is not our normal stance.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last twenty years, we have always engaged with BA, even when the changes being sought were very difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this time it is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is nothing in any of their actions so far that makes us think BA are interested in a &#8216;meaningful consultation&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Steps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week we wrote to BA explaining our position:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>We believe their proposals are an abuse of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme;<\/li><li>They are betraying the Memorandum of Agreement that we reached in March over furlough arrangements;<\/li><li>They are not complying with the 2012 Redeployment Process Agreement regarding consultation;<\/li><li>They have failed to explore all alternatives to redundancy, in particular approaching the Treasury for further support;<\/li><li>They have not provided all the relevant information that the law requires;<\/li><li>We cannot consult with our members in the current environment to the extent the law requires.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are waiting for their reply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>CJRS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is the government initiative under which BA can claim money for colleagues who are furloughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week it was announced that this has now been extended to October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will be writing to BA on this matter shortly and will share our letter once it has been sent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our approach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is an incredibly stressful time for us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are aware that BA&#8217;s actions have placed you all under immense pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot magic this away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, we believe that the approach we have outlined above is the best way for us to get through this together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take care, stay strong,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nadine Houghton<br>GMB National Officer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear GMB Member,&nbsp; Transport Select Committee You will recall the Willie Walsh was questioned earlier this week by the TSC.He subsequently wrote to the Committee Chairman, Huw Merriman.
